Hi. I cut a head and pasted it to a cartoon body. How do I cut out the new head and body and save it as ajpeg or bmp to use in Publisher or word, but without the white background ? Can't the saved image be just the cutout body with no matte behind it?

To be clearer, If I crop it out along the outline of the body and head, when it is saved (gif, jpeg, bmp), the image I paste into Publisher has a framed white border around it which ruins the effect I am looking for. How do I get rid of the white frame and have a contoured cut-out jpg/bmp/ or whatever to work with??

Thanks for your help.

Hi Joe,

Welcome to the forum ...

You can save several format and retain the transparent background ... psd, gif, tiff etc but jpg doesn't support transparency so don't use that.

Save the file as a psd then reopen it ... does the background have the gray & white checkerboard when you look at it in Element? ... if not then something may be going wrong.

I don't use Publisher so don't know if it will work in it or not .. hopefully someone else may use it and let us know :)

Joe,
You can also try saving the file (without the background) as a PNG. But I haven't used Publisher in quite awhile, so I can't remember if it will support PNG files. Worth a try though....

You might also want to consider designing your projects in Elements rather than Publisher, whenever possible.

Yes, Publisher supports .png files. And it ALSO supports importing .gif files.
You might try to build your image on a transparent background (ctrl+n choose transparent), then save it .png or .gif. In Publisher use the Insert>Picture>from file command and browse to your gif or png and insert it. I HAVE had some pngs go in on black, but not if they were built from the gitgo on a transparent background. You will always have white if you use a jpg in Pub.
Hope this helps
