In Scott Kelby's book he does a depth of field effect using a mask and a gradient to blurr a portion of an image.
Rather than using a faux mask and using group previous to achieve this effect, he draws the gradient on the adjustment layer mask and then ctrl-click on the mask to load the gradient as a selection. He then makes the backround active and applies a guassian blurr.
I am curious as to why he would use this method. Is there some advantage that I am missing?
Thanks

Hi Brio ...

No particular advantage ... its just another way of doing it :)
