 But what else is new? LOL!
I know I can do this... I have a logo for our son's lacrosse team. It is attached here. What I am trying to do is: put the logo on a black background so that I can change the black square around the logo to a black circle. I've been trying to do this with the cookie cutter tool. But I just seem to get a square with rounded off corners. I don't know why I can't make the black background go bigger? Does that make sense? I am working on the program for our provincials playdowns, and I really want this logo round not square! Can anyone help?
Many thanks!
Melissa :D

And one more question... for all you brilliant minds out there!
Is there anyway to get RID of the black around the outside of the logo all together? I was thinking of doing a scrapbook page with the logo as a break out feature, but I can't figure out if Elements 4 can do this?
Thanks again!

Okay... figured out the first part by myself! I wasn't MERGING the black background layer with the logo layer, hence the rounded off corners. Now I have a round logo... :D
Still looking for help on deleting the black outside the logo area...
Thanks!

Use the magic wand, set to contiguous, to select the background. Try different tolerance levels till you get what you want. Then delete the selection. You will probably need to clean up the edges.

How about this:
Background Layer
Control J to duplicate the Background Layer, creating Layer 1
Magic Wand: Tolerance 32; Contiguous checked off.
With the Magic Wand Tool select the black at one of the corners.
Layer 1 active, Select Menu, Inverse.
Next, Control J to generate Layer 2 with just Logo
Layer 1 active, Eyedropper Tool, sample black at one of the corner to set the Foreground color at this black.
Then Image Menu, Resize, Canvas Size
In Canvas Size, with Relative checked, set Width and Height each at 2 inches. Leave Canvas Color at Foreground.
Create a new layer named Layer 3 below Layer 2.
Make an Elliptical Marquee Selection around your logo. With Layer 3 active, fill
circle with Foreground color.
Hide all Layers, except Layers 2 and 3. If necessary, you can select either of these layers and reposition log and black circle.
I did this quickly so check me out to make sure the Layers are all in the right place. I did a road test, and it worked fine. It is not the technique that I am worried about, just my typing!
Please let me know how you do?

Just second thoughts...what I described gives you a circular black border instead of a square one... was that what you wanted? If it is just the logo, disregard after the first paragraph.

Just third thoughts,
If you want to get out the black around the player in the circle, use the Magic Wand, Tolerance about 10 with Contiguous checked off.
Hold down the Shift Key to include all those black areas there in the selection. You might consider including the black in the bottom of the L.
Then hit delete. You could always clean up any minor left overs with the Eraser Tool with a 2 px size.
