View Full Version : Which version of PS do I need? Want to retain exif data.

I'm looking for a verision of PS elements that has basic features but also retains EXIF data in the modified saved image file.

Main thing I need is a tool to fix bad pixels (paintbrush/pencil) and retains exif data in the saved - modified image.

Few other basic options like cloning, exposure adjustment and unsharp mask would also be nice. Maybe some basic frame borders and a few effects. Ability to insert an image in the background to replace the original would be nice too. Extra layering and all the other bells and whistles would be a plus butnot needed.

What is the lowest version that will do what I need? Elements 2? 3? 4?

Thanks in advance for any advice.

Hi Dave ...

... and welcome to the forum :)

All of the versions will do the things you mention but PSE2 & PSE3 are just older versions of PSE4 ... so usually people tend to buy the latest one.

If you click on Learning Centre (at the top of this page) ... look under Quick Find and you will see a a PDF that gives a full overview of PSE4.

Hope this helps :)

The tryouts of past versions (2 and up) are available on Adobe FTP server: ftp.adobe.com

Look under pub/adobe/photoshopelements/mac (or win) and below.

Hope this helps!

Dave,
Once you have decided on a version, you will find two saving functions. One is >Save as.. which will retain the EXIF data, the other is >Save for Web which will not.

Thanks for the replies. Exactly what I needed to know.

Depending on what vers. I get and the "learning curve" involved I might be popping back in with a few questions. I'll try to exercise my brain a bit before posting em though ;)

Thanks again

Come back often and regularly. Remember the questions you ask may, most likely, help others and visa versa.
