tool bar

I'm working on the layers class and doing the tutorials. I have learned so much in the last week and am having a blast. I would like to have my tool bar look like Matt's with 2 tools next to each other. Mine currently has just one column. I've searched and searched and can't figure out where to change this. I'm going to bet someone here does. I love reading all the questions and answers here. Almost as helpful as the lessons.
