View Full Version : Moving a png file

I'm making a layout where I want to move some paw prints that are in a png file over to my layout. They are paw prints that look like a cat is walking, not paw prints all over the place like background paper. I wanted to put them on the edge of a rectangle filled with solid color. I found some instructions about opening a png file that says to go to Select, All (since it's the only element in the file), then make my layout the active layer, then select "edit, paste". Well "paste" is grayed-out so that doesn't work. Then I tried just using the move tool and that doesn't work. This paw print file has little squares on each corner and I can re-size the prints and move it around in it's window but can't seem to move it to my layout. What am I doing wrong?

Peggy,
Is your png file in 16 bit mode? If so, change it to 8 bits (>Image >Mode >Convert to 8 bits/channel). It should work then.

While I was waiting for a response I continued to play around with this. I selected All then selected the Move tool and held down Control while I moved the png file and it worked! I have no idea why it worked, however.
Also, I posted one of my first layouts in the Gallery. How do I include a place to click on in this email to take you to my Gallery?

Hi Peggy ...
Click on User CP at the top of the page then on Edit Signature and copy and paste this into it:
[333url=http://www.photoshopelementsuser.com/gallery/viewgallery.php?user=xxxx] My Gallery[/url]
Where it says My Gallery type in what you want to show in your signature.
Now remove the 333 and where it says xxxx type in your user number. Make sure that you don't add any extra spaces ..
To find your user number ... click on Access my Gallery then click on "Share my Gallery" and you see the user number there.
Hope this helps :)

Peggy,
I found your gallery by searching for your name in Browse All Galleries but it says there are no pictures in your gallery:(

Thanks for all your help! I love this site. I just installed my Wacom Intuos 3 Pen Tablet that I've had for years and never used. I finally feel comfortable knowing what to use it for. The online training course on Layers is wonderful. Just noticed however, that when I'm in elements 4.0 using the Brush tool it recognizes the tablet; there's two icons on the toolbar. However, when I'm using the Eraser tool there's no tablet icons visible. What does this mean and where will I use the pen tablet bedsides with the Brushes?
