Does anyone know how to change a photo into Sepia using PSE4.0?
Thanks,

I have Elements 3.0, but this should work in 4.0. It is one way. Try it to see if you like how it looks.
Open photo, Background Layer
Control J to duplicate the Background Layer, generates Layer 1
Add Hue/Saturation Adjustment Layer above Layer 1
(This step is to decolorize your photo and settings are
Hue, 0; Saturation, -100; Lightness, +2) After setting click OK.
Then add another Hue/Saturation Adjustment Layer above the last one,
(This is to set your sepia. First, check off colorize. The settings are Hue, around 29; Saturation, around 19; Lightness around 22). Click OK.
You can play around with the settings and opacity.

Hi Stephen,
Another way to acheive the sepia effect is simply to go to Styles and Effects, which I have to the right of my screen. In the first bar beneath that, click on the down arrow and select Effects. Then, in the white space to the right of that, click on the down arrow and select, Photographic Effects. You will see several tones in the list...one being sepia. You can then go to Enhance, to adjust lighting, if you care to do so. I am a relatively new user, so perhaps there are better ways to do this.

Loretta,
Thanks but I don't have that effect (photographic effect) in my list? I don't know why. Was it a plug in? Are you using PSE 4.0?
Thanks,
Steve

I have PSE4 also and found Sepia under "Styles and Effects" , then "Layer Styles", the "Photographic Effects". Maybe that will help.
Thanks for the tip on using "Enhance" once you're there. That really makes a big difference!!

Steve,
Loretta got it wrong, the Photographic Effects is in Layer Styles.

Thanks everyone,
But for some reason I do not have "layer styles" I've looked all through the program and cannot find it.

Hi Steve ...
Look at the menus at the top of the screen and you will see one marked Windows ... click on that and you will see styles and effects.
It should have a tick next to it ... if not then just click on it and the styles & effects palette should come up ... layer styles is part of that :)
