View Full Version : PE 2.0 Won't Burn DVD

I tried to burn a DVD from my Photoshop Premiere Elements 2.0 and got various errors. At first, it said the DVD burner was not ready (it was), so I rebooted. Then it said Ready, but when I tried to burn the DVD, it quit in the middle with the single word "error." When I tried again, it said it couldn't detect any DVD burners. Does anyone know how to fix this? I'm running Windows XP Pro on an IBM Thinkpad Laptop with a Sony DVD burner using DVD-R media.
Thanks,
Milt

Further details can follow, but for now just two quick suggestions (if you have not done them already)
For Not Ready...
(1) Put the DVD in the driver before you open Premiere Elements 2.0 or
(2) Press Rescan once or twice in the Burn Dialog. The Ready should appear.
When I first started using Premiere Elements 2.0, I ran into a problem with DVD-R (not Brand related). At the very end of the burning process, just when I thought it was finished, I would get error message. This did not happen if I used DVD + R, DVD + or - RW. I tried two approaches (1) having the DVD-R in the drive before opening Premiere Elements 2.0 and (2) hitting the Rescan in the Burn Dialog twice (even it said it was ready). I have found that the hit Rescan twice works about 100% of the time. Others at the User to User Forums at http://www.adobe.com have been similar observations. I suggest to visit there also.
We could evoke burner incompatibility and other factors, but for now let us see if these quick tips resolve the issue.
I will watch the Thread for your progress.

You are in good hands with ATR.....
ATR has been helping me through the process of burning my pictures to my new dvd burner. I am gettting much closer to success with ATR's and Russinators help. Snooze, Ward Grant and Chuck Engles have also been helping me.
So you see, there are many talented people here all very kindly offering their help and expertise!
Good luck to you!

I did try pressing the rescan button several times to no avail, but I didn't try inserting the media before starting up PE. I also haven't tried any media other than DVD-R.
Did either of the fixes you mentioned prevent getting an error during the burn?
What about rendering before burning? Would that help?
Thanks,
Milt

I would try both the fixes together and see what happens. The Rescan fix alone got it to work for me without error.
If both those fail to solve the problem, I would try DVD + R.
If that does not do it, then we need to plot another course which would involve pin pointing...something like "burn to folder" instead of "burn to disc" and then burning that saved folder to DVD with another burn software. In the latter case, you burn the VIDEO_TS folder using Burn Image (NOT make data disc) in the other burning software on your computer (maybe the one that came with the DVD drive).
To be continued..
Will continue to watch for your progress.

Milt,
Render in Edit, before selecting DVD module with burn options.

You may just need a Firmware update for your burner.

ATR,
I tried all your suggestions, except using DVD+R. I inserted the DVD in the burner before starting PE, then rendered the timeline, then hit Rescan twice in the Burn dialog box (it said Ready), then, when I hit Burn, I got a message saying that PE encountered a serious error and had to close. I forgot to mention before that I had gotten that error as well.
I should also mention that when I first bought PE, I managed to kill a DVD burner trying to burn a DVD. The IT people at work told me that it was very unlikely that PE killed the burner, so I bought a new one and managed to burn one DVD successfully before my current attempt.
Thanks for all your help.

Sorry things have not worked out.
But, do try the DVD + R. And, I would suggest trying "burning to folder" instead of "burning to disc". Take the resulting VIDEO_TS folder and burn it to DVD using the burn software that came with the DVD writer (Burn Image category, not DataDisc). Then you can start to find out if your problem is in the encoding or burning part of that process that you inititate when you hit Burn in the Burn DVD dialog box.
Have you visited the User to User Forum at http://www.adobe.com? If you have not, browse through the topics there in the Premiere Elements User to User Forum. There is a lot more traffic there and a lot with burner related problems.
I will continue to watch your progress.
