View Full Version : Audio out of sync from mpeg import

Hello all. I hope someone may be able to help me.

I am attempting to put together a DVD of a TV program captured with my 128mb ATI AIW 9600XT. This program was recorded in segments from commercial to commercial. After import to Premier Elements 2.0, two segments have the audio out of sync in probably the latter third of the file. The two "problem" files are two of ten and the other eight play properly (the results are the same in preview and when "burnt to folder"). All of the files play perfectly using a media player on my computer.

Using a small app called "AVIcodec", I find no differences between a problem file and a good file other than file size. In fact, several of the good files are larger than the problem files.

As a workaround, I did think that maybe I could convert the problem files to avi in VirtualDub-MPEG2 and then import them to PRE2, however I'm not sure if that will work. The fact that all files play properly on my computer and eight of ten seem to be OK after import has me genuinely confused.

Any assistance would be appreciated. Thanks.

I am going to make this simple; dont try to use a clip from an AIW card in Premiere Elements. Get a good digital converter and you won't have any problems http://shopping.chuckengels.com/

If you want to make it work you will need to convert the file to something that Premiere Elements will like; you can use VideoRedo http://www.videoredo.com/ or possibly virtualdubmod http://virtualdubmod.sourceforge.net/

CE...thanks.:)

I was able to do a workaround of sorts by rerendering the problem clips (maintaining the mpeg2 encoding) in Pinnacle Studio 8 and then importing to PRE2. I could have used Studio for the entire project, but I would have been limited to the DVD menu templates included. It turned out fairly successful with the exception of a small bit of audio dropping out and the extra time invested.

I hope my card and PRE2 can "get along", as I have no intention to change the AIW until I get a mobo with PCIExpress. While anything I capture from the TV tuner is mpeg (no option for avi as far as I can tell), I always render as avi when capturing VHS, etc. I suppose I may develop a balance between Studio and PRE2. I really appreciate PRE2's stability (I run a 2.5 P4 with a gig of RAM).

Thanks for the software recommendations. I've used VirtualDub for some time and it seems to come in handy in many ways.
