I am having trouble with the layer mask. When I click on it to make it active there is no "bounding box" around it and even when I fill it with black or white it doesn't do anything. The instructions are clear and straight forward but I can't get the make to become active. I click on the mask itself. Is there somewhere else to click?...Left click Correct?? Do I hold a key down as I click? Thanks for any insight...Suzanne

Hi Suzanne

Not sure I can help, but...:)

I'm also doing the Layers course (now Day 18!);

To fill the layer mask - I clicked on the Adj. Layer to make it active (as you did). I did see the bounding box, but it was more subtle than in the course video.

I set my foreground color to black, made sure to click on the Mask Thumbnail (to the right of the Layer Thumbnail) and hit Alt + backspace (or, with the layer mask layer active, you can also go to Edit - Fill Layer - Use: Foreground).

I didn't have to right-click or use any other tricky key combos...

Please let me know if you found the problem, and/or how it works out!

Suzanne ...

As Tracy said the box is very as obvious ... just one thought.

If filling it with Black or White changes nothing just make sure that all your layers are in the same order as Matts. The other day we had someone who had accidently duplicated the image and it was directly below ... so when the mask was filled with black the image still looked the same because the image below was then showing ... and of course it was the same one ...

Tracy and Wendy....thanks for the help...I went back this morning and followed all your suggestions and it worked. Still not sure of the problem last night but in the light of day and your help it worked! Off to church and then back to my photo! Have a great day...suzanne

Hi Suzanne ...

So pleased that you now have it working OK ... sometimes its better to leave it for a while and then simply start all over again :)
