I have been running out of room on my C Drive in spite of the fact that I install all my programs on my D Drive and save all my files and pictures etc on another computer on my network.

I finally set out to find what was eating up space on my C Drive today. In my temp folder is a copy of every single picture that I have worked on in Elements. Full size pictures - 3 GB's!!!!!!!

I do not use the Organizer - is it possible that it is what is keeping the copy in my temp folder? How do I stop Elements from keeping copies on my C Drive?

(Windows XP sp2, PSE 3, 1GB RAM)

Mary,

Hmm not sure what is doing this - it certainly isn't Organizer though.

Organizer doesn't keep a separate copy of files. If you load a file into Organizer it stores the file as a thumbnail in a "Catalog" and creates a link between the Catalog and the location where you have stored the photos on your PC (say My Pictures). The Catalog sits in a sub-folder within the Elements program folder.

Can you post the full path of the folder where you found the files?

Although I've for a Mac a year ago, I remember back when I was using PSA that nothing of the sort happened and I was really using it (I shot pictures once a day, more or less).

I'd be inclined to think this might have something to do with another application, something to bring the pictures on the computer (like Canon's Image Browser, for example).

Are you using anything to download your pictures from the camera?

Or if you are using PSE3 what location is set under Edit > Preferences > Files > Location For Saved Files?

Thank you all for taking the time to help me - I do appreciate it very much.

C:\Documents and Settings\Mary xxxxxxxx\Local Settings\Temp

I manually transfer the pictures from my camera. There were pictures in the temp folder from my scanner and some that I had opened from archive CD's and my network.

I can't find "Location For Saved Files" under preferences. There is a box Image Preview - Always is checked.

Thanks again! :)

Mary,

What do you mean by "manually transfer"? What program do you use?

The save folder option is under the Organizer preferences...

Good Morning Mike!

By Manually I mean that I go to My Computer | Open Memory Stick Drive (I have a Sony Vaio that has a slot for my memory stick) then I cut the images from that drive and paste them into my network drive that I reserve for my pictures.

I didn't think to look in the Organizer because I don't use it but the Folders for Saved Files in that perference is set to D:My pictures

This may be a Windows thing :?: :?: I went back to that same temp folder and found duplicates of other things as well. e.g. slide shows created in MS Plus Digital Media.

Did you by chance check that some path on your machine and find anything similar?

Hi Mary,

I have 100mb worth of Photoshop files in C:\Documents and Settings\Owner Settings\Temp. They are photos I uploaded using PSE3 today. I have a program though that clears my internet & windows temporary files on shut down.

As you aren't uploading using PSE3, it could be Windows that is placing the files there when you cut & paste from the memory stick.
