Is it possible to get a bigger canvas size? I can enlarge to 793.75cm but no further. I am making a family tree and need more space!! Will any upgrade allow this?
Best wishes,
Wendy

Peter,
I was going to try this out for you but at 1000 x 1000 cm I got a messages saying that my scratch disks were almost full ... so I had to stop the experiment :(.
I suspect that CS will indeed go higher than that ... but I think you may run into other problems.
Are you putting photos onto your family tree?
Best thing I can think of is either use a specialist family tree program or if you do want to stick with Elements then why not split your family tree vertically and do it on more that one image. Another thought is increase the resolution and decrease the type size ... that may work.
Beyond that I am totally out of ideas ... maybe someone else can think of something :)

Thank you for the ideas.I am not putting pictures in , just names and dates with some other bits of information. I started it on MS Paint a number of years ago but am now using a Mac so this is no longer an option. I use a .pdf file and type at 10 point but have a lot of people on it! I don't really want to split it if at all possible though this may be my only option! CS would be an option but my old Windows version of Photoshop had a limitation as well!

Hi Peter,
I'm not sure that CS would do very much better and it is an expensive route to take ... It really sounds like you are already doing most of the things. Just wish I could think of something else :(
Nice to welcome another Mac user ... there are a few of on the site :)

I wonder... how is your document going to viewed ? I mean it's going to make an awefully large document.
If you think Photoshop CS might do a better job, then you could download a demo, and see from there.
Another possibility would be to acquire a CAD application (CAD = Computer Assisted Design). Those are made to handle really large documents (plans of planes, building, etc.) I can't think of any at the time being, but if you run a search on http://www.google.com/mac, you'll most likely find a few options.
Also, I wonder if the PDF format will be suitable for such a large document.
Hope this helps!

You are all quite correct of course! The history of this particular project is that I have an old Victorian family tree. I decided to add our line to it and someone in the past has taken some large format pictures of it and I had the negatives. I had these scanned for me and then simply typed in our line. Over the years, I replaced all the tree on MS Paint so that the whole thing matched. At that time it fitted onto about A0 size paper. I have made it my project to trace all the branches and have added enough so that the tree is now the afore mentioned 8m wide!
.pdf is actually a lot better than .bmp as the file size is much smaller! The paint program in Mac is not as good as the Windows one for this particular project but Photoshop is really rather good! I don't really want a specialised program as it limits the ability to share it. As most of my relatives appear to be Antipodean, the ability to send the files by email is a real plus.

Peter, does your Mac have PowerPoint on it? If so, you could size the layout to 11x17 or larger, landscape (vs. portrait) and then copy & paste your .pdf file onto a slide where you should also be able to make additions to it,(generally, .pdf files are not editable; however, certain elements, including graphics, can be copied to other programs).
Just a thought.
