Wendy (and everyone else)

I know you have posted on this before. Is there a big difference between the two programs?

I have 7.0 but never really looked at it. I remember reading that you said it is better to use PS and don't use elements for a while so it is not confusing.

Is 7.0 better than Elements 4.0 in your opinion?

Or is it just different?

thanks for any insight.

I do not recall if I responded to your question previously.

I have Elements 3.0 and have free access to Photoshop 7.0. You ask which is better.

A lot of the techniques are the same and, if not, there are workarounds.

But what draws me to 7.0 (cannot afford CS2), is Pen Tool, Paths, Channels, and Layer Styles. If I am not using or needing these tools, then I seem to fall more easily into using 3.0.

You mention a comparision with Elements 4.0, not Elements 3.0, and Photoshop 7.0. I feel comfortable staying with Elements 3.0, using the Photoshop 7.0 when needed, and waiting for an Elements with the Pen Tool, Paths, Channels, and 7.0 Layer Style. I do not know if that means an endless wait.

Hi Brent ...

Its different ... and a lot depends on how far you want to go using graphics. If you want to do the most complex things then Photoshop is better but if you don't want to go that deep then you will probably find Elements suits you best :)

When someone does get Photoshop then I usually suggest that they start using it to the exclusion of Elements ... just because whilst they are similar a lot of things are in different menus. That makes switching between the two confusing ... and makes it harder to learn :)

Are you using PSE4 at the moment ?? ... if so then I would continue using it until you are comfortable with it. Then try out Photoshop and see if you like the extras or if you are content to stay with Elements ..

I am using PSE4. I'll take your advice and stick with this for a while and then try 7.0 to see what I think.
