Hello,
I am an extreme newb; when it comes to Photoshop Elements.
So extreme, I don't understand the layers and whatnot.
What I am trying to do, which I have accomplished all but one part of it so far, is Take a pic of Dolly Parton, and another pic of a girl I work w/ and transfer the face.
I wanna put her face on Dolly Partons body.
How do I go about doing that; This is what I have done so far.
I got the face of the girl i work w/ on one picture, and I got Dolly's face out of her picture.
now what??
Thanks
Jeremy

Hello Jeremy, welcome to the forum. Yes it can be done but unfortunately I don't have the skill to be able to write out how to do it and know for sure I have it correct :D Don't worry, I am sure there will be some else along shortly who will be able to give you directions.

Hi Jeremy ...
... and welcome to the forum :)
Not too sure how far you have got with this so lets start from the beginning :)
Open the photo containing the head you wish to use then use one of the selection tools to make a selection around the head.
Now do Edit>Copy ...
Next open the image that you want to add it to
and do Edit>Paste.
If the head is too big (or too small) then you will need to use the move tool to resize it.
Select the move tool click on the head
and a box will appear around it (its called the bounding box)
move your cursor into one corner and the cursor will change shape
hold down the mouse button and drag in to make it smaller or out to make it larger ...
That should start you off :)

Jeremy, please note when you paste the head onto the Dolly photo, the head will be a new layer above the Dolly photo layer. You will see the layers in the pallette bin on the right side of your screen (hopefully). The layer with the pasted head has to be your active layer to move it around. It will be the active layer after you paste. If you want to work on the Dolly layer, you have to click on that layer on the right. Then you can click on the head layer to go back and work on the head if you need to. When you are done, you can print it and all visible layers will print (they are visible if you do not turn them off by clicking on the layer's eye). But if you want to save it as an image, you should go to the menu item Layer>Merge Layers. This will combine all the layers into one, then you can save off your image. Don't merge the layers until you are done as you can't work on separate layers after they are merged. If you are not sure you are done, do not merge the layers but save the file off as (File>Save As) a Photoshop (psd) file. This keeps the layers and when you open it again later both layers will still be there. At any time if you are ready to create your final image, save the file as (File>Save As) a jpg file (assuming that's what you want) and even if the layers are showing they will be collapsed into a one layer image. jpg files cannot have layers - they are one flat image. Well, poor choice of words in the case of the particular photo, I guess. ;) Good luck, post again if you get stuck.

wendy,
This is going to sound like a dumb one, but how do you get the second image to open in PSE 4 without losing the first one?

Hi Mike ...
You just open it in the same way you opened the first one ... you can have as many images open in the Elements Editor as you like. They go into the photobin ...
I'm a Mac user ... I'm not sure how you open images with the Windows version ... so I'm sorry but I can't talk you through it step by step :(

What is the difference between "Merge Layers" and "Flatten Image". I work in Tiff; if I add text to a photo, then try and move the complete photo to another background, if I do not flatten image, then the text does not move. Could someone explain the difference, please

Hi Jean ..
Merge layers ... merges the layers you have selected (or linked)
Flatten image ... merges all of your layers and makes the layer a background layer.
If you try to move an image to a new background and that image has lots of layers then you really have to decide do you want to keep all those layers separate on the new background or not.
If you don't want them all then just do Select>All, Copy>Merged and paste it into your new background. If you do want all the layers then link them together before you drag them across ... if you do that then dragging will move all the linked layers ..
Hope this helps :)

The more I read, the more confused I become. Shall practice this. This summer my goal is to learn something new in PS each day. But then my New Year's goal is always to lose weight. Never happens!!! Thanks for explanation Jean

Hi Jean ...
Whenever something confuses you just ask a question ... sometimes thats the simplest way of clarifying things rather than wading through books trying to work it out :)

To have as many images as you want open in the workspace (& not just the bin) go to Window>Images>Cascade or Window>Images>Tile
