I know users have asked about galleries, web sites, ways to show pics. online.

Everything I have found that is FREE has some limitations.

Google has just started releasing it's Picasa Web Album.

This is 250 meg of free space.

One can create and download into folders - add some descriptions - etc.

If you use Picasa it's extremely easy to use.

I've started moving some "stuff" to mine.

As usual you first need a Google email account - then you ask to be put on the waiting list and Google emails you when accepted. This is common with Google to keep from being overwhelmed. My request took 2 days.

Yahoo is updating theirs and it looks like there will be no limit as to space.
I hear release is next week ???? Will update on it when it gets here.

Paul,
That looks nice! Can the on-screen dimensions of the large image be changed? It looks like the width is always 576 px. Is that the maximum?

Never mind... I just closed the favorites on the left side of my screen and the images are now up to 800px. Tried the slideshow also, which is almost full screen.

Paul - keep us updated on this. I'd like to see if you experience problems.
I downloaded Picasa several months ago & had recurrent PC lockups, so I uninstalled it. Let me know how it goes. I might try the software again & look into the website.

Thanks for sharing.

I never had any problems with any versions of Picasa. I have it installed on two PC's. The desktop probably has 10,000 - 20,000 jpegs on it. That includes scans, downloaded images, and my own pics. Now saying that I don't really like the way it indexes things, I can find it - but no faster than my own indexing system (same goes for PSE's organiser).

It does take a lot of "horsepower"' when it is indexing - I find it's best to start it and walk away. Especially when 1st installed.

On my laptop I keep a minimal amount of images and it indexed them OK while doing other stuff. There was less than 500 images and I selected which and where for it to look.

I really like the way it will create a web album. It is almost effortless. You can select an entire folder and let it go. Since I do everything indexed by folders for me this is way too easy.

Still waiting on the latest Yahoo/Flickr update - but I hear it will be similar with no restriction on size.
