Elements 3 Mac OS 10.3.8, 1.5 Gig Mem, 933 Mhz Processor:
Almost everytime I open the program and an image, I get an error that reads; "Could not complete your request because the file is locked. Use the 'Get Info' command in the Finder to unlock the file." The images are not locked! I checked.
As I work the image, this error periodically pops up. I have trashed the Preferences Folfer in the Library, but to no avail. I posted a similiar message on the Adobe forum, but no response. Never had this error w/ Elements 2. Sometimes it provents me from completing an execution.
Anyone ever see this on a Mac w/ regularity, and if so what is the solution?
Thanks in Advance

Don,
I don't have a MAC, but have you tried deleting the preferences at start up?
To do this hold down the Apple, Alt and Shift keys together and then start Elements. Keep holding these keys until a windows comes up asking if you want to delete Settings, select Yes.

Don,
Lets see what we can sort out:
Has it been like this since you installed it
Did you repair permissions before and after the install
Did you disable any virus software before you installed
Have you run MacJanitor
Sorry about all the questions ...
Did you manually delete all the preference files. They are in your user>library>preferences folder. You need com.adobe.Photoshop.Elements.plist and the Elements 3 preferences and paths.
Let me know how you go on :)

No, not since the beginning of when I got it. Seems to have started a couple months ago. Yes, I repair permissions all the time w/ OSX, everytime I install or do any kind of update/grade. I have & do run MacJanitor everyday. I did trash the Photoshop setting in the Library. I did NOT trash the plist file. That is the only thing I did not do. It didn't say to do that on the support from Adobe, so that's why I didn't do that. I don't know what you mean by, "Let me know how you go on?"

Don,
I had hoped that you hadn't done one of the things on the list ... so thats what I mean't by Let me know how you go on.
I have just tracked down your query on the Adobe Forum and there was a reply there about cache files and permisssions ... did you try that?
Do try manually deleting the prefs ... all the files I mention and see if that works.

I did go back to the forum and followed those instructions. He was right about the Permissions thing. I checked & changed everything mentioned. This weekend I'll be able to work w/ the program and see if that corrected my problem.
Thanks for pointing me back to that site (and for your interest), because I never got notice that someone had answered my Post.

Don,
Do let us know if it works so that we can help other people who have a similar problem. This is a new one on me but I haven't updated to 10.3.8 yet!
Will keep my fingers crossed for you :)

Sorry I haven't gotten back for so long; but the short of it is that the corrections I made to my system did not change the error messages. Still happening.
I haven't reinstalled the program yet. Really hate to go that far. I am able to get around the problem, but it really is annoying and no reason for it. I'm surprised no one else has written about it. I can't be the only one!Q

I too have had the same problem with PE3, and this problem has existed since installation. I've tried all the suggestions before, including re-installing the application to no avail.
I continue to have the same problem. If anyone does come up with some type of solution, I will be anxious to know.

Hi there ...
... and welcome to the forum :)
Have you tried all of the solutions listed earlier in the thread ... including deleting the prefs file ?

Hi, Thanks for the welcome.
Yes, I have tried all the recommendations. In fact, just retried them now, and the icon is bouncing in the Dock as we speak to show me the error message. That was after starting up the app, and not having even tried to open a file.

Hi there ...
OK then try this one ...
What have you got your time zone set for ??
If your time zone isn't set ... or you have it set to Cardiff then the application icon bounces in the Dock ..
Do let me know it this helps :)

A few suggestions...
- Running from another admin account...
- Repairing permission with the Mac OS CD (or DVD), and not from Disk Util

Seems like i found the answer on a Swedish website.
Quote from an answer that the guy got from Adobe:
Issue
When you try to start or work in Adobe Photoshop Elements, the application returns one of the following errors:
--_____ "Could not initialize Photoshop Elements because the file is locked. Use the 'Get Info' command in the Finder to unlock the file."
--_____ "Could not complete your request because the file is locked. Use the 'Get Info' command in the Finder to unlock the file."
Detail
_You are logged into Mac OS X as a user (that is, not an administrator).
Solution
Set the permissions for the Previews folder to read and write:
1._____ Quit Photoshop Elements.
2._____ Select the Previews folder in the Adobe Photoshop Elements 2 folder.
3._____ Choose File > Get Info.
4._____ Click Ownership and Permissions (Mac OS X v10.2.x), or Privileges (Mac OS X v10.1.x and v10.0.x).
5._____ Choose Read & Write from the two Access menus (Mac OS X v10.2.x) or the two Group and Everyone menus (Mac OS X v10.1.x and v10.0.x).
6._____ Click Apply to Enclosed Items.
7._____ Click OK.
Additional Information
Photoshop Elements must have read and write permissions for its Previews folder and the Cache folder within it. If you log into Mac OS X as a user, you don't have read and write permissions for these folders.
Unquote.
I tried on my PSE2, but it didn't work. So I noticed that the permissions on all files below the Previews/Cache folder were set to Administrator, although I'm running as a regular user. Changing the owner of the files to my user (and leaving the groups permission as admin) seems to have worked (for the last 20 minutes, which - in this case - is a long time).
Good luck. This thing has annoyed me for a long time.

Haven't seen the error since.
Looks like manually changing the rights on those files is the solution.
