hi, I see so many people here have their own web pages to display their work and I was wondering what would be the best way to start one. Should I or can I start one in PSE3 or should I do it elsewhere? Is it hard to do and does it take time to matain. I've been working on a lot new things latley and I wanted to display them. Thanks for your help.Rick

If you have a Mac, the easiest way is to get a .Mac account. Comes with ample web space, and all the tools to manage it are already in a Macintosh.
If you're under Windows, then you can use services such as PBase. It's a service tailored to display image. So if you have the desire to later post videos and a blog, it's not for you.

depends on how far or how elaborate you want to go.
For a simple site, just to show images, check out Pbase (already mentioned), or for something a bit more, head over to blogger.com (http://www.blogger.com/start) for a free space to post images, comments, links - a regular blog that you can customize however you want, and it's a good place to get your feet wet with web stuff. you can create regular pages in PSE and cut-n-paste the HTML code into the posting page on blogger. It sounds pretty complex, but my 9-year-old son has a place on blogspot, and he composes pages with images with ease. Myspace.com is another blogging site, but they slam way too many ads per page, IMO....
For just a place to display images, the graffi joint's Digiart Galleries (http://www.graficalicus.com/index.php?module=pn4images&func=main) has free personal galleries - just sign up, create your personal gallery, & start uploading. No ads, just your images with your comments.
Photobucket.com also has a no-frills place to upload images. I use Photobucket to post images destined for other places on the web besides my site, like forums or email. My little PB gallery is here (http://s48.photobucket.com/albums/f219/graficalicus/), for you to see what a no-frills posting place looks like.
if you want your own personal place & are familiar with HTML & FTP, register a domain (your .com) at godaddy.com, then find a host with a package that has the amount of space you'll need with the features you'd like at a price you're willing to pay.

Hi Rick ...
Quite a lot of us don't have our own website ... we just use our Gallery here to display our images. So why not just create your own Gallery ...
Another thought is just use Pixentral to upload your images and then do a thumbnail in a message ... we will then be able to look at your images :)
If you need any help with Pixentral ... just let us know and we will talk you through it step by step :)

funny I should see this post today! Last night my daughter's boyfriend (20) said that tonight he wanted to make a web space for his boss. He doesn't have a computer and uses ours to check his e-mail. I asked him if he knew HOW to make a web site and of course he didn't. He just figured I did! So I guess really he was hoping I would make a web site tonight. Considering I was going to do my own over a year ago and haven't I think he's SOL! :D

You could also check out Site Grinder 2 from Media Lab (http://www.medialab.com/idevaffiliate/idevaffiliate.php?id=107). It allows you to design your site in Elements 3 and above and then it automates your design into a fully functional website. It's pretty slick.

I use Photosite. They have several plans--one is free. You could sign up and use their free site [as a test]. Maybe that's all you'll ever need? It's mostly for pictures but you are able to insert text also - Russ

I use Frontline or PrintMaster to create my web and then send it to my ISP which provides space for my web. It's part of the ISP package. You might try that. Just call and ask.:)

The only way to have a site that is yours is to learn some HTML, maybe some javascript and even asp. Otherwise, all you will have is someone else's template displaying your photos. This site and others that allow you to post photos usually limit the size of the photos you can upload. To me, that stinks. Pages with all sorts of shiny buttons, frames and other nonsense distract from you photos. Why do people think that photos on the WEB have to be limited to tiny little images that don't do them justice? What do you want viewers to remember after viewing one of your pages?
Someone I work with uses smugmug. It's not to bad and will allow you to upload the full size version of your image. It's not free, but it's a great deal.

Personally - I wouldn't use PSE to do it unless you have a site with some control over it and you can do FTP.
Depending on who your ISP is you may have some free space available.
For instance I have RoadRunner and a measly 10 mb of space. SO I also use free front host for some stuff (as it's free :) ) then I've started postings pics to Google's free web page. All these are linked. I know enough HTML to do the basics.
I also have pics on flickr and a few on Yahoo.
Now for me the best would be a plain space with plenty of data storage - unfortunaly none are free and right now I'm CHEAP.
Google is pretty good - no adds - goodly amount of space and templates for the newbies.... Limitations are - a lot it can't do -- But it is free and could take about 100 pics.

For what it's worth, doing a Google search on "free web space" yields quite a few results. :)

Hi' rick321 and good evening from Edinburgh.
I am a very senior surfer (72) and i made a web oage quite easily.
If you log in to a site 'Fotopic' you can upload your images easily and they will help you in making a web page.
you can look at my site - www.jbdigipics.fpic.co.uk
really i had no problems.
Hope this helps.
regards.

And almost all will either not work with FTP - have way too much banner adds or some other "hidden agenda".
