View Full Version : Still Can Not Decide on Tablet!

Hi Everyone,
I cannot begin to tell you all how much I love using my new tablet(s). They are so easy to use. I also love PE 4. Just reading and learning how to use it. Very new to me. I will subscribe for the lessons, I am still not sure which tablet I like. 4x5 or 6x8. Has anyone else had this problem? Does anyone feel that their hand/wrist sometimes comes off the right side on the 4x5 and is that normal? Smaller pad very easy to move around. Larger is comfortable on the hand and wrist but little more movement. Is that something you get use to instead of resizing pad size. In time does one feel as though they would like the both sets of tools on the sides of the 6x8. What a difference using a tablet instead of a mouse to erase backgrounds, touchups, manipulating, etc..Why can't I make up my mind!? Did anyone else have a problem deciding? I think I like them BOTH!
Thanks Again

It seems to me that the 6x8 will be better for you -- as you mentioned your hand comes off the 4x5. It really needs to be a decision to choose the one with the least amount of negatives. While both tablets will do the job -- it amounts to comfort and ease of use when deciding on size.

I agree with Will. I have a 4x5 because of the space I have but I think the 6x8 would be better. So if you have room for the 6x8 go for it.I sure like the tablet better than a mouse.:)

Jancy,
I got the 8x6 purely because I got a very good deal that worked out cheaper even though I really wanted the 5x4. In retrospect I think I'd have found the 5x4 too small as I have quite large hands and long fingers. I alternate between using the left & right keypads - sometimes I use the ones on the right even though I'm righthanded & have the pen in my right hand, other times I use the ones on the left.

Jancy the differences between a tablet pen and mouse are huge. You have (or at least most of us with the exception of Wendy :D ) much more control with a pen. It's more natural to use than a mouse. Also you don't have to hold down a button while working like you do with the mouse. And lets not forget pressure sensitivity. You don't have that with a mouse at all. Draw a line with a mouse and then draw another one with your pen and start with a little pressure and use more pressure. Your line should become darker and thicker. To the right of the brushes property tools bar there is a section to change what your pen pressure affects.....brush size, opacity etc.
As for size, it sounds like you are more comfortable with the 6 x 8 and I would stick with that one.

Pauline ,...
Maybe I am the exception that proves the rule :)

Wendy you definately are the exception. I honestly don't know how you do it. It requires extra skill to use a mouse than a tablet. The tablet makes it so easy.

Hi Everyone,
Thank you all for your help. I should say the way that I had the tablet placed allowed my wrist or arm to come off the side.I purchased a bendable memory foam arm rest that I can wrap around the bottom and right side which I would think should be more comfortable. If that's the case I think I would like the 4x5 cuz It seems a little easy to cut out things and work in photos, seems that the stokes are smaller even when it is zoomed in. Does that sound right that my stokes around an object to be cut out would be smaller in the 4x5 as opposed to the 6x8? Example- cutting out the same photo on the 4x5 and 6x8. -seems like less time and less strokes on the smaller one, does that sound right?
Thank You Again

I have the smaller one 4x5 and love it don't have a problem with the size at all I think the larger one would be too big.
I just have one question how to keep my cat off of it! She loves napping on the tablet.:D

I'm using a 6 X 8 and I'd go bigger if I could. I personally can't stand feeling an edge under my wrist which is why I prefer larger.

I feel the same way---I like them both --I like working with the small one but the edge feels better on the large-I guess I'm back to square one! I better hurry up and decide or else I won't have to, because I won't be able to return one!!!I guess that would make up my mind-I'd have them both!!!

Can't you just resize the 6x8 to a 4x5 work area?? Or is that just something I made up??

Hi there,
Yes you can resize, but I was thinking if the small size is fine then I actually would like it better because it does take up less space next to my keyboard. Actually both do fit. Then if I am only going to use the resize of 4x5 why would I want the bigger one. Is there any advantage with the larger one? Such Decisions!!!

Unfortunately Jancy, you are the only one that can make the final decision ;) I never had the chance to try either size when I bought a tablet. I went to the Wacom website, made my decision (after a lot umming and erring) then went into Bunbury and ordered the smaller one. The order had to come from the Eastern States and I had to wait nearly a month for it to arrive

I just purchased a Wacom Graphire 4 6X8 tablet. I am not even sure how to do many things with it but it sure seems an improvement over using a mouse to select, or paint, for example.
What other things could I use the pen for? Any ideas or suggestions.
Thanks.

I must have misunderstood  won't be the first time. :)
I thought you liked the work size area of the 3x5 but the physical size of the 6x8 (wrist support) .
Awwww ...... keep em both. :D

Hi all,
Not matter what size I keep. I love them! I use mine for all my photo programs, browsing the internet--everything I use the mouse for I have now been using the tablet. Well at least 95 percent of the time! What a difference. Just so easy to use and fun. It's a great new toy! Actually after this post I am going to subscribe here for the 2 years and watch the tablet tutorials that everyone mentioned here say are great. I guess I'll be back later for new questions- You guys will never get rid of me now!!!This is to much fun. What a way to spend a Friday night.
My how things have changed!!!
Thanks

Thank You Wendy,
I'll keep my eyes open. Hopefully there will be more. There is so much more here to keep me busy for quite a awhile! I have only opened PE 4 a couple of times. I have tons to learn.
Thank you again
