Determine size of new blank layer.

I've worked on a photo and applied some artistic effects to it. Now I'd like to go back and add a new blank layer so as to add a gallery affect to this photo. My question is, how do I determine how large to make the new blank layer??

The new blank layer will automatically be the same size as your document dimensions.

i am new but can't you just increase the canvas size? Are you talking about a white frame around the image?

I was thinking the same thing. If you just want a white background a little bigger than your image? Go to Image- resize- Canvas size.
Try 1 inch on both and if you don't like it make it bigger or smaller. Is this what you are trying for?
