Just purchased PSE 4.0 and have two unusable features both of which are in the Slide Show portion of the software.
The first is the inability to edit a photo, the three buttons “Auto Smart Fix”, “Auto Red Eye Fix” and “More Editing” all three are grayed out.
The second is in the “Output/Burn to Disc” there should be an option to burn to a DVD and there is none.
The manual provided with the software as well as the HELP section within the software mention these two options are available.

First, make sure your image is in RGB mode (in the Editor, Image / Mode / RGB...)
For the DVD, I think you cannot burn a DVD video of your slideshow in PSE4. You can burn your pictures on a DVD, from the Organizer.
Hope this helps,
Ray

No DVD burning Option at all with Photoshop Elements 4.0. There is one in Photoshop Elements 3.0. Check out the description in 4.0 Help again..way described is to have the Photoshop Elements 4.0 Premiere Elements 2.0 combo. That is the DVD burning route that is being described.
Both Photoshop Elements 3.0 and 4.0 take the Creation and output it as a wmv file. Although you have the option in 3.0 to burn your slideshow to DVD with 3.0's Sonic burning software, all you are doing is burning a wmv file to a DVD. Your wmv file is not being authored into a DVD-Video format that will play on the TV/DVD player. You need other software for that.
3.0 as well as 4.0 will let you burn your wmv file to CD as a wmv file or VCD. The VCD will play on the TV/DVD player provided your player supports VCD. The VCD plays on a computer either by using appropriate software such as PowerDVD or by clicking the VCD dat. file followed by playback in Windows Media Player.
Check out Search in all the Forums here. You will find alot of discussion and opinions on this topic.

Beerfest,
Have you resolved the matter of the grayed out Auto Smart Fix, Auto Red Eye Fix, and More Editing?
My Photoshop Elements 3.0 Slideshow differs in many respects from 4.0, so I did some homework to explore differences. If you are in the 4.0 Slideshow Editor, apparently you can edit the features that you mentioned directly from with the Slideshow Editor. You must first click on the image in the preview window and the editing tools are supposed to appear in the image Properties tab. Have you first clicked on the image that you want to edit? What did the Properties tab look like at this point?

Saving the image in RGB mode did the trick. Thanks!
Just wish the manual was more accurate regarding the software and its features.

If you have Premiere Elements installed on the same computer as you are making the PSE 4 slide show, you do get a choice in the PSE 4 slide show related menus to create the video DVD format and burn to a DVD. These tasks are done within Premiere Elements, which usually automatically starts when you choose the DVD disc option for the slide show.
The PSE 4 Help topics seem to imply that you can do the DVD with just PSE 4. However, in at least some cases, there is a footnote stating that this requires also having Premiere Elements installed.
Of course, you can save a WMV file in the PSE 4 slide show process and then make a DVD using other software that is a DVD authoring program. Note that this is not just burning a data DVD; it requires a process for authoring a video DVD in order to play it back on your TV.
