View Full Version : Eliminate "snow" around edges of effects?

I'm an Elements beginner so please excuse my shortfalls. I noticed many of the effects leave white "snow" around the edge of the effect. Short of clone painting.....is there a way to avoid this as in the attachment? Are there settings to avoid this? This is my first attempt using multiple layers of various sorts. I couldn't find one adequate to mask the "snow".
Thanks

Hi ...
You stained glass looks good !! and you have done really well .... :)
If you mean the white in the stained glass then it really depends on the strength of the distort you use and the resolution of the image. You normally get this where you have large contrasts in colour (light to dark) over a short distance. Did you maybe cut the hole in the glass and then do the glass distortion ... if so try it the other way round just do the distortion and then cut the hole..
If you look in my gallery ... you will see that when I made glass for the bird and the leaves near the tail I specifically created this snow type effect just to add to the illusion of glass.
Hope this helps :)

Yes, I did the cutout then the effects. I will try it the other way around. That makes sense. Thanks for the help.

That's very pretty. Looks like all you need to add is some text saying Season's Greetings and you have a beautiful holiday card.

I think its great as well... I am confused about the snow however. Are you talking about the white dots around the center circle?... If so wouldn't a little cloning take care of that without redoing the picture?

I think it's very Impressive. I just hope by the time I get done with all the Layers lessons I can do half as good as that! Very Pretty!!!

Wendy,
I tried your method stated above. It does work a little better. I found it easier to clone out as many off white pixels as possible with surrounding color and then apply effects. That virtually eliminated the light pixel "snow". Cloning before hand is less tedious and does not require the accuracy of a finished product. Thanks for the suggestion. I tried a new photo with many dark and light pixels. Came out OK I think. I am beginning to like this program much better than PI.
PS. To all, thanks for the positive comments on the earlier attempt.

Hello J, I really like the new stained glass effect, particularly the way you have the tree on the "outside" - well done.
