I'll be on vacation for a week. I don't know if I'll have internet access or if I will use it to post for the next 7 days.
Please keep the lights on for me and put a key under the mat. I may be coming home late.

P.S. Please don't forget me... (desparate plea for attention)

People from Florida leave Florida for vacation. :) I went to Lake Lanier Islands in Georgia. Camping. No pictures taken. I just "vegetated" and relaxed. No stress. No kids. Lovely wife. Cool beverages, some boating. Biggest decisions were "where are we eating our next meal?" "Do we go horseback riding today or boating?" and "Which comfort station do I use for personal hygene?" It was very stressful.

Gosh Brice - I don't know how you managed such stress. ;) Sounds like a dream vacation.
I keep saying the next time I go somewhere I'm NOT taking my camera. Yeah right - I can't get past the door without having withdrawal symptoms.

Brice,
That sounds like our camping trips. Our priorities are food, ice, fire wood, beer and water, not neccessarly in that order. We're going "up north" next month to the place we go every year.:D

Nancy,
You can come with us. "Up north" is the south shore of Lake Superior. We have room in the pop-up and a guest tent. We even have a sleeping bag and air mattress for you. All you need is your duffel. This year the full moon occurs while we are up there. Bring your camera for the sunrises, sunsets and full moon over the lake. This is a lake sunset from last year.

There aren't any hotels near the lake at Little Girl's Point but there are seasonal rentals down the road. I was down on the beach for this one. Because of the clouds, this sunset lasted for 25 minutes.:D

It's stocked with food, beer, hard liqour, and water with fire wood stacked near by. Of course the refrigerator/freezer makes ice. The microwave/convection oven combo cooks delightfully, although we rarely use it for more than heating popcorn, and the dual AC keeps us comfy in our queen size pillowtop bed. The gas hot water heater gives us nice warm showers.
Internet is optional, but often available.
Camping can really be a rough experience...

We traded in our trailer a couple years ago when the Explorer became the "exploder". We've resigned ourselves to the comforts of hotels. The trailer was "roughing it" as much as the wife could handle it... and that was that. Which is funny considering that the way we get to the hotel is by motorcycle. In any case, we are a strange lot.
I missed your departure Brice... but welcome back!!! I guess I haven't been on much lately. So much going on... so little time. And I STILL haven't gotten my newsletter (as if I have time to read it).

I would guess the hard liquor is to help cope with all the traffic or those winding mountain roads :D :D

June 19th, 2006, 06:09 PM
Well, we discovered that the leveling jacks didn't work, the TV antenna was broken, the generator needs a 900 hour service ($200 a pop), and a few other miscellaneous things that don't rear their ugly head when you have your RV in storage, but pop up the first night of your first night camping.
That's what the hard liquor is for forgetting: 1) that you can barely afford the payments, let alone fix the darn thing, 2) it's worse than having a second house, it's a house that moves 3) gas prices have doubled in 12 months. 4) the relatives that want to borrow it, but don't want to share in the mortgage nor the upkeep. Hey, I do get 6 MPG though!!! Woo Hoo.
Brice
P.S. Sherry it only sleeps 4 comfortably...

Sherry- I'm with you, sorry, Nancy! I grew up camping in Michigan and told my family when I grew up I'd fly over the rest areas/campsites and wave! I like the campfires and the general atmosphere but not the work and the dirt and the damp and the...one time my family all went camping and my husband and I hung out at the campsite and then slept in a nice motel.:)

You know Kay - I kind of like the idea of campfires and marshmallows and such and then actually "sleeping" in a nice comfy bed. Hmmm....
Brice - that's like my brothers and he lives in Florida 4 months out of the year in it. (he is a semi-professional fisherman) He comes running home to Illinois whenever those little storms you get start coming.;) He just got back last week - just in time to miss the first one.
Kay - I think mud baths are available in the nearest creek.

June 19th, 2006, 09:13 PM
Kay,
There are lots of little creeks up north and the mud is a fine grained red clay. After the sauna you hafta take a dip in Lake Superior. Den we do da marshmellows over da fire, ya. I'm a Yooper wannabe, we keep going back.:D

Brice,
The pop-up is low maintance and it's easy to level. After this one we're going to look at a Hi-Lo. The tent trailer was my idea, we had a lonely pickup truck with a hitch. :D

So true - most Floridians do leave for vacation! However, I lived in Naples for 24 yrs. & hated leaving it (except during hurricane season).
