Hi Again-

last week I posted some work by students: http://www.photoshopelementsuser.com/forum/showthread.php?t=10064

I mentioned that I would post a few more this week, so...here are 4 more. These student are 8th graders.

More Student Work (http://schools.mukilteo.wednet.edu/staff/rodriguezme/stu_images2\index.htm)

Several of you wrote some comments like Wendy (and others) does/do for Grant's Challenges, and the kids were very touched. These 4 were..ahem..sort of hoping for some similar comments.

So...once again, if you're looking for something to do for the next five mintues, that would be cool.

BTW, many of you have said many nice things about Yours Truly, and you're very kind. :) I sure hope you realize, though, that my intent here is simply to give my students some exposure outside of our classroom (in the "real world," if you will) and to show you what some of our young people can do. It's definitely not an attempt on my part to garner nice comments about me. They're sincerely appreciated, but definitely not necessary!

There. Got that off my chest. Now, enjoy!

Once again the kids did a beautiful job. The concept seems much more focused and well executed on these four than some from the last group. Did the kids take the pictures or were they stock. No matter - all four used really good placement of the "rip" and created really dramatic effects. Way to go guys!

John: While the image and layout is lovely the image doesn't reflect the text. I realize the text is in cherry blossoms, but they are a tad obscure and I really had to look a second time to see them. If the object is to tell a story with words and pictures, it doesn't quite do so. I also thought the text overwhelmed the right side. Having said that, it is a very nice image, well designed layout. Good color balance. As a composition, it's great.

Josh: I like the way Josh has carried the text into the image to bring the two sides together. We're talking Hawaii here so an image of the beach or the rainforest might better represent the location. So, I like the motto. I like the theme, I just think there is a better way to represent Hawaii in the image. If he added the rainbow. WOW! Great job.

Sharon: Cute image. Not sure what she's advertising. Spell check is a good idea for any image. I would like to see the image split the dogs face in half instead of showing parts of the dogs right side. I think she advertising adoption strays, maybe even from Katrina. The face of that dog definitely says adopt me. Minor tweaks and she nails it.

Vicky: She really captures the spirit of the image AND the subject she's adverstising. I'd call it advertising on the edge. I really like the wet look of the heading. Perhaps blurred a tad too much, but this is one of the best of the bunch. If she was targeting youth, perfect. If she was targeting families I think a lot of Mom's are saying no right now.

Hi Mike ...

Links worked just fine :)

John ... This is great ... I love the way that the walkways draw you into the image and suggest tranquillity . I also like the use of the Cherry Blossoms as a background (maybe they could have had a slightly softer edge) ... well matched font and good text

Josh ... I like the overall image and the way the colour has been matched. Nice work on the angled text ... that adds interest and moves your eye from the text to the rainbow.

Sherry ... Those sad dog eyes are enough to capture anyone ... nice use of text and font sizes, that adds to the effect. Great distortion on the Passion Pets !

Vicky ... Great action image that captures the attention. Good use of text and colour ... like the watery text too but its just a little difficult to read. The website name is really amusing !!

Thanks for the links, Mike, I really enjoy seeing their work.

John- Great effort! This one was very visually pleasing and definitely conveyed serenity. The only thing that I might suggest trying is to try an effect on the text- embossing or something to see if it makes it less "faded" into the background. Don't know if that would work or not.

Josh- Nice colors and good picture for this effect. I like the font but it's a bit hard to read. Maybe making it a bit larger would be better? Or maybe a script font where the letters are wider? And the rainbow- was that his addition?!

Sharon- Good colors and fun picture. I like the distortion of the passion pets text. I would recommend not having the edge of the writing go into the picture because it makes those few letters hard to read, so either do an effect on the border of the text panel or resize the text to leave some spacing.

Vicky- Great picture for this ad. The effect on the river rafting text is a good idea, but it was a little hard to read. The rest of the writing could be "jazzed" up a little. I'd also recommend more uniformity with the size of the font. The blue background for the text works okay, but you could try a texture or something to give more of a water feel. Or, you could bring in the yellow from the boat.

Just curious- were these handed in after the others or at the same time?

Hi Kay, and thanks for your time to comment on their work.

They weren't quite done with theirs last week, so they turned in theirs earlier this week.

Another girl turned hers in today, and it is quite good. If I can find a moment tomorrow, I'll post it.

Thanks again!

Well, sorry for the technical weirdness. I have no clue. It works fine for me, and some others I had test it.

At any rate, these direct links have seemed to work for Wendy, Kay, and others so...

John (http://schools.mukilteo.wednet.edu/staff/rodriguezme/stu_images2/large/john_postcard.jpg)
Josh (http://schools.mukilteo.wednet.edu/staff/rodriguezme/stu_images2/large/josh_postcard.jpg)
Sharon (http://schools.mukilteo.wednet.edu/staff/rodriguezme/stu_images2/large/sharon_postcard.jpg)
Vicki (http://schools.mukilteo.wednet.edu/staff/rodriguezme/stu_images2/large/vicky-Postcard.jpg)

Hope they work better.

Also, here's an additional one turned in yesterday. I thought it was quite good:

I should say that most of these photos are stock images from an educational site that offers free use of the images for schools. Some kids use their own, but our school is in a pretty low-income area, and not many kids have digital cameras and the like.

Thanks,
Mike

Gupreet has done an outstanding job. I think hers is one of the most creative I've seen. She ties the tiger into the frame of the image, provides a rocky transition to match the tiger's domain. Creative use of typography and catchy slogan. Superior all around.

Oh that is well done ...

The tear is well positioned !!

Great use of different fonts, could have looked too many but because of the way they are tied together with the colour scheme it isn't and it works really well. I especially like the way Wild is slightly behind Bengal ... that good.

Nice touch with the paw prints and good to see the variation of direction, colour/opacity ... the 4 orange pads caught my interest too :)

Its well thought out and well put together !!
