Just to let you know someone is looking at your posts.
A quick background-it sounds like you had some type of computer crash? Is that correct? What is your operation system-XP I am assuming? Also, do you have the original disk for Elements 2?

Hi Potatodude,
Most people will think File>Catalog>Recover which cleans up the Organizer database in PSE 3 & 4 when they see the word recover. Since there is no Organizer in PSE 2.0 your subject line (error when recovering Photoshop Elements 2.0) might not be enticing the right people to answer your question.
You could try with a new subject line. Maybe include Sony Vaio, or the name of the app recovery software, or UID.mr.dll.
I am not sure what app recovery software does. Is your PSE 2 not functioning at all? Maybe its something someone here knows how to fix without resorting to the Sony software.
You might want to check on a Sony forum. Someone there may be familiar with your problem.
You should probably post more details than you think are necessary. It is hard for people to figure out answers when they can't look over your shoulder to see exactly what the problem is.

...it's all on a 5gb disk with other appsP.D.
So then you're having trouble installing the software provided by Sony on the Sony System Recovery disc? Maybe there's some process you need to follow to successfully use that utility?
Of course, you HAVE made a query to Sony support?

yes i can view the setups on the the disk but they all have cryptic file-names like CDVD040421217.EXE.... and when i tried to run one nothing would happen
