Swimming at the Gator Hole in Rainbow Springs, FL has its good days and bad days! ;)

Here I did my first cube with an insert over a nice photo of the Gator hole. I suppose you could say it is a different composit or something like that. Actually I think the cube should have been larger, but this is the overall affect I wanted. Thanks to PSE 3 and you guys and gals, I was able to do it in 25 minutes. This old gator isn't fast, but I'm getting there! :D

Roadrunner,
if you go to -

http://www.vizros.com/

you will be able a set of plug ins that let you do all kinds of things.
If you decide to down load the plug ins, play particular attention to the installation instructions and how you register.
It's free.

I think that's where I learned to scuba dive!!! They never mentioned the alligators.

Alligators:eek: !!!!

They have a sign posted that there are alligators, and people would actually consider going swimming there or even getting into a small boat and going on there:eek:  !! Not me, not in 100 million years!!!!!

Nice work roadrunner, although just seeing the word alligators gives me the willies!

Alligators don't bite under water. They attack above water and drag you under. So Scuba is fairly safe and if there are several people around, alligators will stay away. You are more likely to get struck by lightning. Do you walk in the rain? I would never do that?

And I do stay under roof during lightning storms too.

Hmmmm if anyone knows about lightning strikes it should be Colleen, got a little close to home for her. Seriously close!!!

Cool image RR !!!

I used to feed the Alligators when we lived in Florida. Movies give them a bad name...tho i know attacks happen they are very rare. Usually it's the little white dog on vacation from NY with their clueless 2 legged parents that goes to the edge to get a drink that gets it !!! :D Aren't I terrible.

Hi,
thanks be that we don't have them in the UK. I've watched them on Discovery's Animal Planet in the Miami area and some of those gators are huge.
No way do I want to be anywhere near them!
Like we say about the wild life in Oz, it'll either sting you, bite you or eat You:D

Feeding alligators is a bad idea. It get's them used to humans so they have no problem approaching you. Then they eat your dog or child.

Jody:

I cannot believe you ever fed them!

No, I stay away from any thunder and lightning....I am the first one in my car and on my way home at the first sign. Heck, and then it gets me at home.

I don't even want to look at an alligator in a zoo! They give me the creeps!

The website that you gave for the free plugins say that it works with photoshop. Does it work with photoshop elements 4?

Thanks in advance for your assistance on this.

Absolutely unbelievable Jodi. I still say if you train an alligator to take food from a human and then that alligator gets hungry, where do you think he thinks he's going to find his food? And if there's a big human and a little human or pet right next to each other, which becomes food?

I thought the statement about the pit bull doing more damage than an alligator was completely irresponsible and misinformed. I don't care if the idiot who said it owned a pet shop. He's just trying to sell gators. He was right about being 1000 times less likely (probably more) to be bit by a gator.

It's against the law to feed alligators in Florida. Perhaps some of these folks from RI should come down and try to feed one of our wild ones. Might solve our north to south migration problem.

Brice, indeed you are absolutely right...we were having a picnic and there were a couple of 6 inch baby gators by the edge of the water...I was bad and could not resist giving them a little of my sandwich. They were just too cute. Same at the zoo they don't want you to feed the animals anything other than what is provided...I used to bring some carrot sticks in with me and feed the zebras and ponies etc......I'm very bad :) I'm just another law breaker ;)

I never thought that my little ol picture of the Gator Hole would spark so much discussion.

I do have a true gator story to tell. While the Bride and I were fishing in a 14 Ft. Boston Whaler, the Bride noticed a gator that had to be 1o ft. or longer moving in on us bery slowly. Then these two kyakers came down river on the Wacasassa near Cedar Key, FL. We warned tham about the gators as we strted up our engine to get out of Dodge - ya know what I mean? Well these two fellas said that they had seen quite a few playful gators on the way down river. The one told us the gators sometimes rub up against the yaks! The kyaks were about 10 or 12 ft. in length. :D

Did I mention the Bride sold our boat!:(

No offense, I think I would have sold the boat too!

I love boating, both on lakes or the ocean, pontoon boats, sailboats or motorboats.......just don't want any gators near me!!!! ANYWHERE NEAR ME!!!!

Jodi, I understand... Many people do just that. We'll let you off with a warning now. Zoos encourage that kind of interaction for some animals and discourage it for others. Heck, I take part in it any time I'm allowed. It's just hard for some folks to differentiate between safe ways of doing it and unsafe ways... I'm not too worried about a giraffe from the zoo eating my child by a local park... Surprising, I know, but true.

I'll get off of this after this. My wife and I were canoeing on the Hillsborough River in Tampa and we spotted a gator on the shore almost as long as our 15' canoe (Of course that was terror measurements, it was probably about 3' long). It was at a narrow bend in the river. We either had to turn around or pass it within about 10 feet. Well we kept going. We got to the pivot point in the bend as far as we could get from the gator without going around and the D*&N thing jumped about 2 feet in the air and tore right for the water. We, at the time, thought we were goners. Turns out it didn't like us any more than we liked it and it was just fleeing under the water. After changing our shorts, we continued unabated.

Brice
P.S. We still have the canoe. She hasn't been in it since that time.
