Snow (day after tommorrow)

I just finished watching the day after tommorrow again, magic movie great effects now i want to create ice in elements any one got any good tutorials on making snow or ice effects?

What about adding ice to a photo that would look really cool? :idea:

To make falling snow flakes:

:arrow: Press Ctrl+J to duplicate the layer.

:arrow: Go to Filter> Pixelate> Pointilize and set the cell size to 5

:arrow: Press Ctrl+F several times until the image is replaced by a series of coloured dots like this:

:arrow: Go to Filter> Adjustments> Threshold and move the slider to adjust the intensity of the falling snow. Moving it to the right will increase the amount of snow.

:arrow: Press Ctrl+I to invert.

:arrow: Change the blending mode to Screen.

:arrow: You can also apply a small amount of Gaussian Blur to soften up the flakes.

so lets do icicles :)

Open up a blank file 500 pixels by 500 pixels 72 pixels/inch .. fill the background with a dark colour.

Create a new layer above the background.
Change your foreground colour to white and with a 40 pixel, soft paintbrush draw a horizontal line across the image.
Image>Rotate>Layer 90% Right
Filter Stylize>Wind
Image>Rotate>Layer 90% Left
Now that should give you a basic idea of how you can form icicles ...
Draw the lines any way you like, vary the thickess, try it on text, draw your white "snow" on one line then a dotted line for the icicle layer on the next to give just occasional icicles, experiment with all sorts etc etc ... its all up to you.

Last tip ... How about giving it an icy blue look.

create a new layer above the icicle layer
fill it with a pale blue ... I used AAC4FA
Change the layer mode to colour
And there you have icy blue icicles
