Dang; I missed a couple of tips! I used "Center" for white Stroke instead of "Inside". After doing the exercise and reviewing the tutorial, I made note of why my efforts fell short. The second mistake I caught doing a review of the tutporial was that I used the Levels tool instead of Color Saturation Brightness adjustment for the background. I think I'll do better next time!

That's the nice thing about stuff like this: you can make a "mistake" and chances are that it will still look great!

I've found (as both the author of and the doer of tutorials) that it's easy to get locked in to thinking the steps in a tutorial are the ONLY way to do something. I have to remind myself that it's OK to stray from the project once in awhile.

The only problem is, it's sort like inventing a recipe. You might end up with something delicious, but if you didn't write it down, good luck next time!

What a great shot to use this effect! Each individual pic is nice by itself. I think it looks terrific!

Roadrunner- I like it, even if you didn't follow the steps!

Mike- You're right about not having to follow each step and still being able to get a good product. I am finally at the point where I can not follow each step and still end up with something that works. In the beginning, it was a disaster if I missed something because I had no idea WHY I was doing each thing.

Roadrunner,
it works for me! Nice effect.
One thing I've found in the short time that I've been using PSE is that there seem to be many different ways of getting the same effect. Try anything, if it doesn't work, trash it and try another way.
You have always got the members to ask for advice if you get really stuck.

Roadrunner, that looks good to me. And, as Mike said, changing the recipe is a good thing! I started renaming layers to give myself a hint of what in the world I was doing -- just in case I want to get the same effect some other time. Another good idea someone had a few months ago was to make a text layer with the notes. Turn the eyeball off to see the creation, and turn it on to read the step-by-step.

Thanks for the encouragement and ideas! I found that in some cases there are shortcuts that work out just fine, and sometimess not so fine.:D

At any rate; I'm glad I checked out the ad in PC-Photo Magazine. I ndidn't realize there was also a web site. Now I will be getting the publication and web site to boot.

Thanks for sharing everone!

Hey Jo - I started doing that this week and didn't realize it had been suggested before. So often people ask me and I can't remember so I started adding that text layer with instructions. Boy - thought I was being clever . Didn't realize someone beat me to it.:D
