Looking at the Layers Tutorial on here, I have the 2 photos I want to work with in the photo bin. I have the background layer and chose that as such. Then in trying to put the other photo as layer one, that's where I get lost. That photo replaces my background everytime I move it (I did use the move tool). What's the deal? Am I doing something wrong here? Is that photo too big? Please help!

Kathy.

This has caught quite a few of us.

You won't be able to move a file from the photo bin. Make sure the photo on your screen in not maximized. In the upper right corner is an icon with multiple squares which will enable you to have more that one picture on your screen at a time. Now you will be able to move one photo onto another.

Hope that helps! :)

If you're in maximize mode, you can drag using the Photo Bin, but you must drag from the active document onto the thumbnail in the Photo Bin of the second image. For example if you have a photo of a sky and another of a balloon, to add the balloon to the sky you would make the balloon the active document and use the Move tool to drag it onto the thumbnail of the sky.

Or, as Mary said, you can work in cascade mode and drag from one image to another.

I had no idea you could do it that way! If the picture you drag onto the thumbnail in the photo bin is larger you get the outline and can resize it easily.

Thanks - this is something I will definitely be using!!

Thanks ladies for your responses. I went ahead and tried what you told me to do and it didn't work. I think the picture I want to put in the background is too big--bigger than the background, so I don't know.

Open your layers palette and see if you indeed have both images there. If you have and it is indeed too big then:

Select the move tool,
Click on your image,
Do View>Fit on Screen.
Now you should be able to see the "bounding box"
Grab one of the corner handles and you will be able to drag it and resize your image.

Hope this helps
