View Full Version : Slide Show Problems on Photoshop Elements 3

I have been creating slide shows in photoshop elements for more than a year with good results. I recently changed my CD burner to a DVD burner.
After I started creating slide shows with the new DVD burner, slide shows created to be viewed in a DVD player on a TV have had problems.
I have tried 3 different DVD burners without good results. None of them are on the "supported hardware" list although the last one I tried was actually
more recent than ones that were listed.
After the slide show is created I get a pop-up that says: "VCD with menu created successfully" although I didn't create it with a menu. I can view the slide show in photoshop elements on the computer and I can also create a file to be viewed in Microsoft Media Player without any problems. But once the VCD is created the music "usually" plays fine but the show hangs on the first or second picture for a long time and "never" moves.
I am currently using a Plextor PX-750A. I have used a Pioneer (don't remember the number on it) and an HP DVD 740. The CD burner I was using that worked was a Plextor.
My question is: is this a hardware problem or a software problem. Your help in this matter would be greatly appreciated.

I had so many thoughts about your question "Hardware, Software, Other" that I thought it best to send you a private message.
I hope my lengthy comments will help, and I will watch this Thread for your progress.

I would sure like to receive a copy of your private reply or a taylored private reply since I have had the same frustrations.
I have created a slide show and want to burn it on to DVDs so I can share it with others to view on TV. The software implies this is possible. I did burn the show to a CD-R but it does not work well at all with DVD players and it does not play on computers either.
I have been told that it is because I used DVD+R so I bought DVD-R with the same result, the software states it is the wrong medium and to us a CD-R. My PC does have a DVD +-RW.
So can PSE3 do what I want or do I need to purchase the Premier Elements package?
Thanks.

Most of this has been covered in a lot of Threads in these Forums. But, I am in process of preparing a very detailed message for you to deal with your present situation.
Please watch your private messages. I should send the message within the hour.

winedinner,
A very long private message has just been sent. I hope it helps.
But, in re-reading your post just now, I am not sure about some of your details. Please excuse if I am misunderstanding what you wrote....my comments on media (discs):
When you are preparing a slideshow for VCD, you use CDs not DVDs. VCD is Video CD. For playback of the VCD on the TV/DVD player, that player needs to support VCD. Look for that logo as per message. You do not put VCD on a DVD disc. If you do, you will get a message that it is not the right type of disc.
When you get into the details of preparing a slideshow to put on a DVD disc for TV/DVD playback, then you need to make sure that your player supports the disc format (DVD + or - R/RW).

well, I decided to try downloading to cd a show I had done last year for my grandson (it had come out great) upon downloading onto cd I found that this show now also has pictures cropped.
Has my program malfunctioned? Does anyone out there know what I can do to fix this new problem. Please, anyone, help!!
I have been doing slide shows using Photoshop Elements 3.0 and have been successful so far. But the latest one I am doing for my daughter I did the same exact thing as I have done in the past and now the bottom half of all picture are cut off. I have been able to play these slide shows on my computer in Real Player, Windows Media Player and also on my DVD player. But not so with this latest one. Now with Real Player, WMP, and DVD all bottom half of slide show are cut off. When I play it in the Photoshop it looks fine. I am beginning to wonder if Photoshop has a limit on the length of the show or on how many pictures you can use.

Papeco,
Listen closely, YOU CAN NOT CREATE A DVD FILE BURNABLE IN PHOTOSHOP ELEMENTS OR FOR THAT MATTER A FILE CREATED WITH PSE OUT SIDE OF IT! You must format the output file as : WMV and save it to the Hard Drive. You must save it as a file with DVD resolution (720 X 480) which is NTSC television. The VCD format only has half the line of resolution that DVD has. So, notice the 2X multiplication formula and you have the answer why your pictures are cut in half! One program that will convert (transcode) WMV files to the format required for DVD (VIDEO_TS folder) is the full version of Nero.Likewise, Premier Elements will convert these files to a DVD format.More people generally have the Nero, but, it must be the full retail version. The direct answer to your original question is: IT'S A SOFTWARE PROBLEM! (coupled with some pilot error)
