View Full Version : Tried Dave's "rainbow" tut!

I finally had more than 1 hour of uninterrupted time tonight. My 2 kids, ages 4 & 8, usually home but tonight off to a show with daddy. What is the first thing I do? Go to the gym? Go for a jog? Take a nap? NO! Go to the subscriber videos and play!
Anyway, I thought the "rainbow" tut sounded kind of hoaky, but it was really fun. Here's my church under a rainbow, and I used other tutorials to give it a "gallery" look, and threw in my new signature brush made from Wendy's tut. What do ya think?

Marie,
What do I think?................I think you have presented a very attractive image, looks good........very subtle rainbow, which is how I like it.

Thanks for looking Robyn! I spend so much time admiring the work of the regulars, such as yourself, that I am a little shy about posting photos.

You shouldn't be shy Marie, you have a lovely gallery. I love Zoe......is she your dog? Interestingly you refer to me as a 'regular'.....I still very much regard myself as a 'new kid on the block'.

Technique aside - which you did a wonderful job on and have nothing to be shy about- the photo itself is beautiful! If I were you I would consider doing a watercolor style print out of that. It would be gorgeous!

Nancy:
You mean take the edited photo with the rainbow and then use the watercolor tutorial to make "a watercolor style print"?
I will look for a watercolor tutorial. Thanks for your comments and advice! You guys are very nice.

It's so beautiful! It looks there is light on the church itself. Was that the way the pic was shot, or did you add that effect?

Thanks Val. No. I did nothing more than what Dave suggests in his video. Believe me, I am not that adept at this stuff myself. I am seeing improvement in my photography but not so much in my editing and pp abilities. I think that requires a lot more time in front of the computer, time I do not have enough of right now. This site sure provides inspiration though!

Nancy:
I perused the tutorials and videos and found "make your photo have a painterly effect." Might that be what you are talking about? Or can you point me to a tutorial on watercolors? I'd be willing to give it a go with a step-by-step tutorial like Wendy's tuts or Dave's & Matt's videos.

Marie- Nice job putting several techniques together. I bet your church would love that hanging on the wall...
And don't be shy about posting, that's the point of the forum.

Here is a link to a thread that had a really good technique for creating watercolors.
http://www.photoshopelementsuser.com/forum/showpost.php?p=58472&postcount=15
Message 15 is the start of the instructions and you just have to sort of go forward from there and pick up the odds and ends that people posted. Tim posted 3 different techiniques in that long thread and I think # 1 or 3 would work best on your picture.

Thanks everyone for your nice comments.
Nancy:
Thanks for the links. I clicked them, found the thread, then clicked Tim's links within the thread but could not find the watercolor tutorials. I wonder if they have been removed? I saw other tutorials though, and downloaded several.
If you know of another link to get to his tutorials, I'd love to try it.

I cannot seem to find Tim's watercolor tutorials. I even "pm'd" him for the link. But I tried Janee's watercolor tutorial from the link in the thread you provided (http://www.myjanee.com/tuts/paint4/city2.htm), but the method did not really work for this photo. I like her site though. I am going to try the painting tutorial here. If I get something decent, I will post it. You should not have suggested this idea. Thanks.

Marie,
If you PM me with your email address I can send you the pdf files for all 3 of Tim's watercolour tutorials...........only things I'm off to bed for now (time difference and all that). Nancy has them too I think. If you still haven't got them by tomorrow (Sunday for me) let me know and I'll send them to you.
