Hi Nancy ...
I watched them last night and they really are great ... :)
Maybe we should try them out and post our images ??

Good idea. I'm going to the baseball game today and perhaps a panorama of the stadium would make an excellent image for either.

And 2 excellent videos they are!! And of course I find out that when I did my 'many little photos', I seem to always find the hard way to do it!!
Thanks Dave and Matt!!

When trying to recreate the 'many windows' tutorial, when I use the move tool, hold Alt + Shift and move the selection, it puts it on a new layer. There are obvious workarounds, but I'm puzzled.
Is there a setting or preference that may be causing this?? Thanks in advance.
Bill
If anyone else is having this problem, I unchecked 'show bounding box', and now it works perfectly. Not sure why that would make a difference, but it's fun answering my own question for once.

Thanks Bill,
The workarounds aren't obvious to me and I'm glad to know that unchecking the bounding box works to put all the duplicates on one layer. I've no idea why.

Thanks Bill! I am going to try that one tomorrow. I did the panoramic one tonight and I posted it in the same thread that Kev has his in. It was a lot of fun, but I did need to go back to the tutorial a few times....ok, maybe more than a few........:D

I think it's more coincidence in my case Ellen. With the bounding box checked I wasn't thinking to necessarily click on the selected pixels. I was just clicking inside the bounding box. With that off I am more likely to click directly on the selection and that seems to be the difference. Maybe.
Nice job on the panorama Colleen. Looks like a beautiful setting too. I'm sure you'll enjoy the Many Windows tut ... I was just confused by the 'unexpected results'.

Hi ...
This confused me for ages then I eventually worked it out ...
You need to have an active selection to get this to work ... so:
Control Click on the square in the layers palette
Then select the move tool
Now hold down alt and it will copy onto the same layer
If you don't have an active selection then it dulplicates it BUT puts it on a new layer.
Hope this sorts it out for you :)

I was wondering if there is a printed version of instructions for these videos??? Anyone know? Thanks, Gwen

Hi Gwen ...
... and welcome to the forum :)
There isn't any written instructions to these two Videos ... but you can download them to your PC so that you can watch them later.
If you prefer written tutorials then there are some in the subscriber area but not as many as Video ones ...
Just go to the Subscriber Area and click on Tutorials or if you are already logged in then just click on this link:

Gwen,
About your post about printed instructions for the videos in the Subscriber area...
Wendy has already answered your question, but I just wanted to add a note about this. I have found that creating one's own written instructions is far more meaningful. And, it fine tunes you to looking for those little details that may have escaped the eyes/ears when watching/listening. It is sort of like those pages of instructions with little "make sure to do this and not that notes" in the margin.

Thanks for th welcome and the reponse. I did look in tutorials, but found great information in the video. I will watch again - taking notes rather than having that open mouth, wide eyed stare at YOU CAN DO THAT!!!!!
Thanks...

OK, here's my stab at that video. I added a step to put the background on its own layer and used the complex layer style called "groovy", then lowered the opacity to let the photo show through.

I really like that. It is a beautiful, serene scene and works perfect for that effect. What does the background "groovy" do? If it is a texture it seems to be losing it in posting. Just curious.

"groovy" without lowering the opacity gives a silver-to-black gradient metallic look. It makes a nice bevel on a stroke layer, but this time I used it on the whole background layer after deleting the "windows" and stroking it.
Without lowering the opacity:

BIG PROBLEM -- NEED HELP!!!!
I have saved all of the videos to my hard drive and plan to burn them to a dvd. The files have all worked fine up until earlier today. I can view the movies without any problem when I open them from the Temporary Internet Files folder on my c drive. But when I try to watch them from the exact same file (just copied to my Elements Video folder) they don't play. I haven't had this problem prior to now. Does anyone have an idea as to what could be causing this?
I really do rely on the videos a lot to fix my photos, and I would be heartbroken if this can't be fixed. I have a lot of time devoted to this project.
Thanks for any help you can give me!

I had an incident to where the videos were playing but losing sound -- so I did some checking to make sure my sound card was OK, it was based on other software and then went back to the videos and they played just fine.
I think rebooting might solve the problem -- as it does fix things that are mysterious.

I was checking some of the older videos, which I am positive worked fine. Most of them were giving me the same problem, but a couple showed okay.
As soon as I am finished with what I am doing, I'm going to reboot (and keep my fingers crossed).

Well, I uninstalled/reinstalled QuickTime Pro 7.1 and still had the problem. So, I went to Apple's discussion group, and this problem seems to be a common one for QT7.1 for Windows. Here's what someone said to do . . . and it worked! Woo Hoo. Here's what he said:
I just figured out a workaround which works for me:
1. Open the QuickTime Preferences dialog.
2. Click on the Advanced tab.
3. Uncheck "Enable Direct3D video acceleration" (the 3rd checkbox under DirectX).
4. Click OK.
5. Close QuickTime.
6. Try to play the video again. Does it work this time? If not, repeat steps 1 and 2 and try selecting "Safe mode (GDI only)".
I hope this helps some other folks out there.

Thanks sooooo much for that fix. The exact thing happened to me over the last couple days, and I too uninstalled / re-installed with no luck. I was just about to hit the Apple boards and post a plaintive plea for help here.
Problem fixed ... thanks again!
