Could someone please give me a name for these little yellow flowers? They're growing in my yard so I'd like to know what to call them.

uhhhh - you could call them "pretty"
sorry - just had to put that one in.
I've seen various forms of this flower (specifically at the Cornell Gardens at Cornell University in Ithaca, NY. - but sorry I don't remember the name of them) - One variation had the yellow but with red streaks running out from the center. Daughter just graduated from Cornell this past Sunday - so I've tried to go to the gardens each time I've been there.
Hope someone here can help you out.

ok - did some looking -
seems like it is Chrysogonum virginianum
Goldenstar is another general name for it. Grows wild on sandy banks and in woodland clearings from PA south to FL and LA. 5-rayed stars for several weeks between March and June.
That is my best (and not too intelligent) guess and by looking at your picture and one in one of my perrinial books.
Maybe someone can approve or disapprove of it.

Bruce - I think you are on the right track. I was thinking Golden-something but could not remember the second part of the name. I almost bought some at a nursery to use as a ground cover.

We call them weeds in Florida.
The little buggers are coming in from my neighbors weed invested lawn and taking over my berms. At least they are pretty, but when you don't want them, they are a bear to get rid of. I've tried everything this side of dynamite. That would just spread their little spores all over the place.

They look very similar to a hedge of sorts that we have growing on the side of our house. They were there when we moved in...... What we have, we have found out is St. John's Wort.
Brice: My husband would just die if he though something he had growing in HIS yard was a weed!!!!! :D :D

Brice ...
Its amazing how some flowers are prized in some parts of the world and yet called weeds in other parts :)
